Car club management apps: what each is good at

A car club needs two different things: administration (members, dues, communication) and the fun part (meets, photos, the cars themselves). Few tools do both well, so the right choice depends on which problem your club actually has. This guide compares Wild Apricot, Facebook Groups, WhatsApp and Moterno. Prices are as of October 2026 from Wild Apricot's own pricing page; where we could not verify a competitor's plans, we say so.

What does your club need?

  • Administration: member list, renewals, online payments, newsletters, a website.
  • Events: who is coming to the meet, where, when, and photos afterwards.
  • Cars: a place where members' vehicles and their histories are visible, and where knowledge does not disappear into a chat scroll.
  • Cost: volunteers rarely want to invoice themselves for software.

We left out ClubExpress and Meetup: their pricing pages did not load for us, so we cannot state current plans. Check them directly if you are comparing paid options.

Where Moterno fits

Moterno's club page is free. Setting up takes a name, a place and what you drive, and you choose who can join. You get a front page showing members' vehicles and for-sale listings, meets and runs with sign-up so you know who is really coming, a wall and stories built for photos and write-ups, a members-only list, and classifieds just for members. A starter kit adds an invite link, a QR code, a printable A4 poster and a message you can paste into a newsletter or Facebook group.

The difference from a chat group is that members each have a garage with the history of their own vehicles. When someone joins, the club sees real cars, not just names. Clubs can also start a model registry: collect every known car of one model, with chassis number, status and ownership history, and export it whenever you like.

What it does not do: collect dues, process payments or build a website. For that, use a tool like Wild Apricot or whatever your treasurer already trusts, and keep Moterno for the cars and the meets.

How to choose

  • Over 100 paying members, a treasurer, a website: a membership system such as Wild Apricot.
  • Under 50 members, no dues software: a free club page plus a chat group is usually enough.
  • Test it on one meet: create the next event on Moterno, share the link in your existing group and see whether people sign up. Move more only if it works.
