This policy explains how Moterno processes personal data when you use the website, create an account, record a vehicle's history, take part in the community, or use connected services. It also explains the choices and rights available to you.

- You choose when a vehicle or item is shared with followers or the public.
- Moterno does not sell your personal data.
- You may request access, correction, export, restriction, or deletion.

Send privacy requests to post@moterno.com or to the postal address above. Signed-in users may also use the feedback form. We may need to verify your identity before responding to a request concerning account data.
2. Data we process
Depending on the features you use, Moterno processes:
- Account and profile data: name, username, email address, country, biography, avatar, language or unit preferences, email-verification status, and reminder preferences.
- Authentication and security data:password hashes, session identifiers, OAuth account identifiers, two-factor authentication secrets in encrypted form, recovery-code hashes, login challenge data, and rate-limit records.
- Vehicle and history data: vehicle identifiers such as registration number and VIN, make, model, specifications, odometer readings, ownership periods, service and maintenance records, expenses, reminders, paint codes, notes, photographs, and documents.
- Community and marketplace data:follows, club memberships, meet attendance, comments, reactions, listings, listing photographs, and content you choose to publish.
- Location data: meet addresses, venues, and map coordinates you enter or select. Moterno does not continuously track your device location.
- Billing and referral data: Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, subscription status and paid-through dates, plan status, invite usage, and referral rewards. Moterno does not store complete payment-card details.
- Communications: feedback, support messages, invitation recipients, and transactional or reminder emails sent to you.
- Technical data: request and error logs, timestamps, route and dependency information, approximate location derived from an IP address, browser or device details supplied to connected services, and security signals used to prevent abuse.
3. Where data comes from
- Directly from you when you register, edit your profile, or add content.
- From other Moterno users when they invite you, transfer a vehicle, mention an ownership period, or interact with your public content.
- From Google when you choose Google sign-in, and from Google Places or Maps when you select or view a meet location.
- From Stripe when you start or manage a paid subscription.
- From Statens vegvesen when an eligible Norwegian user chooses to look up a registration number. The integration requests technical vehicle data and does not request owner information.
- Automatically from the service's security, hosting, and monitoring systems.
4. Purposes and legal bases
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Create and operate your account and provide requested features | Necessary to perform the service agreement or take requested pre-contract steps |
| Process subscriptions and maintain transaction records | Contract and applicable legal obligations, including accounting duties |
| Send service, verification, security, and transfer messages | Contract and Moterno's legitimate interest in operating a secure service |
| Send optional service and inspection reminders | Your consent, which you can withdraw in account settings |
| Prevent fraud and abuse, secure accounts, diagnose errors, and enforce limits | Moterno's legitimate interests in security, reliability, and fair use |
| Publish and distribute content you explicitly make visible | Performance of the service you request; you control the visibility setting |
| Respond to legal requests and protect legal claims | Legal obligation or legitimate interests, depending on the request |
Moterno uses rules to calculate plan access, storage limits, referral rewards, and abuse limits. Receipt scanning may suggest extracted values, but you review them before they become a permanent expense record. Moterno does not use solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
Name, email address, country, and authentication details are required to create and secure an account and provide the service agreement. If you do not provide them, Moterno cannot create the account. Fields presented as optional can be left blank.
6. Visibility and vehicle transfers
New vehicles, history records, photos, and documents start private. You may choose private, followers-only, or public visibility where the feature offers those choices. The most restrictive applicable setting controls what another person can view.
Publishing a vehicle does not automatically publish private costs, documents, or history items. Public profile, community, meet, and marketplace activity is visible according to the feature and choices shown when you post it.
During an ownership transfer, the outgoing owner selects a transfer manifest. Private owner-specific material is excluded by default, and the recipient must accept the included history and storage. Provenance may remain attached to transferred records, while a previous owner receives no special access merely because they owned the vehicle before.
8. International data transfers
Moterno is operated from Norway and uses suppliers with international infrastructure. Microsoft, Google, and Stripe may process data in the EEA and in countries outside the EEA. Where a transfer requires safeguards, Moterno relies on the mechanism applicable to the supplier and service, such as an adequacy decision, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or European Commission standard contractual clauses.
Provider information is available in the Microsoft Data Protection Addendum, Google Privacy Policy, and Stripe Data Processing Agreement.
9. Retention and deletion
- Account and content data is generally kept while the account is active and as needed to provide the service.
- Unverified password-signup accounts with no usable content are scheduled for deletion after the 24-hour verification period. Older accounts tied to content are reviewed rather than force-deleted.
- Expiring sessions, verification links, password-reset links, OAuth state, and login challenges are retained only for their security lifetime or until used or invalidated.
- Billing, transaction, fraud-prevention, and legal-claim records may be retained after account closure where required by law or necessary for those purposes.
- Application Insights diagnostic data is configured for 90 days. Azure SQL point-in-time backups are configured for 7 days. Deleted blob files are not covered by a Blob Storage soft-delete retention period and are removed by the application when the related record is deleted.
You can submit and cancel an account-deletion request from the Danger zone on your own profile. Active vehicle ownership, club ownership, and paid subscriptions must be resolved before Moterno can complete it. Completion removes login credentials and personal account data and anonymizes the account. Some vehicle-history records may concern other owners or have been accepted into a transferred vehicle record; those records may be retained in de-identified form where necessary to preserve another person's rights and lawful records.
10. Your rights
Subject to the conditions and exceptions in applicable law, you may request:
- information about and access to personal data Moterno holds about you;
- correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
- deletion or restriction of processing;
- an objection to processing based on legitimate interests;
- withdrawal of consent, without affecting earlier lawful processing;
- data portability for eligible data processed by consent or contract; and
- review of a decision if you believe an automated rule affected you unfairly.
You can edit profile and preference data on your profile, request account deletion in its Danger zone, change content visibility in the relevant record, and export an owner-accessible vehicle history from the vehicle page. For a broader request, contact BLICO AS using the details in section 1.
You also have the right to complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet). We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve the issue.
11. Security
Moterno uses access controls, private file storage, encrypted connections, password hashing, encrypted two-factor secrets, hash-only session and recovery tokens, rate limits, and monitoring intended to protect personal data. Access to private vehicle and file routes is checked on the server. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, and users should choose a unique password and protect recovery codes.
12. Changes to this policy
This policy may change when Moterno's features, suppliers, or legal obligations change. The date at the top shows the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated in an appropriate way, such as a prominent in-service notice or email when required.
